TEACHING

RESEARCH

My  interests centered on the design and implementation of formalisms for the
representation of linguistic information, especially that involving morphology in parti-
cular and the lexicon in general. The research project Dynamic Extension of the
Lexicon dealt with the automatic acquisition and management of lexical information
about "unknown words" which may be encountered by a natural-language processing
system but are not explicitly included in its lexicon. Since its inception I was
concerned with the language DATR for lexical knowledge representation. DATR
employs nonmonotonic inheritance in order to cope with scales of  regularity, sub-
regularity, and irregularity, which were investigated in my project Modelling Sub-
regularity in the Lexicon
(2000-2002).  I later concentrated on the use  of FST for
historical phonology and Formal Concept Analysis for the classification of languages.
